HEADING TO THE FAIR?
HOW TO ENJOY OVER-THE-TOP FAIR FOOD
Enjoying yourself without overindulging can feel like a delicate balance, especially when carnival rides are involved. Here are a few tips for surviving the food at the San Diego County Fair:
- Eat before you go. Don’t show up starving and you’ll be less likely to over-indulge.
- Choose your favorites. Decide beforehand what your family’s favorite fair treats are so you aren’t overwhelmed by all the options when you arrive.
- Listen to your body. Stop eating before you feel stuffed (especially if going on rides).
- Share! The portions are HUGE at the fair. Split meals or treats to avoid bellyaches.
- Drink water. Avoid extra calories from sodas or drinks, and bring your own water bottles (but make sure they are factory sealed to be allowed into the fair).
- Bring your own food or snacks! It’s okay to bring food in, so feel free to pack a sack lunch, or bring in a couple healthy snacks to balance out all the sweets and fried foods.
