Menifee, CA
The City of Menifee is located in southwestern Riverside County approximately 30 miles southeast of the City of Riverside, California. The city encompasses approximately 50 square miles with an overall population of 91,902. The area was originally inhabited by the Luiseno and Pechanga Indian tribes, and in the 1700s, the area fell under the rule of the Spanish empire. The area was eventually annexed into the United States from Mexico in 1850 under California's statehood.
Menifee was named after a lode miner Luther Menifee Wilson, who discovered a large quartz lode in the 1880s. By the 1960s, it was planned as an active retirement community with its Mediterranean climate. It has an average of 263 days of sunshine with an average high temperature of 83 to 101 7 months of the year.
By the early 1990s, Menifee grew to a master-planned community. It’s largest employers are Mt San Jacinto College District, Menifee Unified School District, and Romoland Elementary School District. The Menifee Valley Campus of Mt. San Jacinto College serves Menifee, along with its neighboring cities of Temecula and Murrieta, and is known as the fastest-growing community college in California.
In a recent ranking by the financial website SmartAsset, Menifee was ranked #35 as “Top Boomtown in America”. Boomtowns are characterized by prosperity, robust development, and cities that are desirable to take out a mortgage. There are employment opportunities to attract new residents and businesses.
Menifee is also California’s seventh fastest-growing cities. It was officially established as a city on October 1, 2008. It is estimated that the population increased by about 20% in the past 10 years to 100,000 residents.
