About Corona
Corona, CA
The city of Corona is located in Riverside County. Its name means “Crown” in Spanish. Its nickname “the Circle City” comes from the unique layout of its streets enclosed by the circular Grand Boulevard, a nearly 3 miles circular layout around the heart of the city.
Once known as the “Lemon Capital of the World”, the soil was fit for citrus. Lacking any agricultural experience, investors brought in experienced citrus workers from Italy who had knowledge of successful citrus cultivation. The majority of the labor force was composed of Mexican workers. Grapefruit, orange, and lemon provided the backbone of the local economy.
The citrus agriculture gave way to urban development in the 1980s. With the construction of freeway 91 and easy access to the 15 freeway, housing development boomed making access to Los Angeles and Orange County more manageable. The area is desirable to developers and industrialists and by the late 1990s, Corona was considered a major suburb of Los Angeles. With this development, diversity grew to bring Native Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and African Americans. Corona is one of the fastest-growing communities in the state.
Corona has 38 college campuses within a 40 miles radius. The largest residential employment sectors are education and health followed by manufacturing. With a location between the i15 and 91 freeway, Corona is home to well-known food manufacturers like Monster Energy, VegFresh Farms, and US Foodservices. The University of California Riverside just 20 miles from Corona, has the California Agriculture and Food Enterprise program bringing innovation and development to the food industry.
Corona has a warm Mediterranean climate with mild to cool winters and hot summers. Visible from almost anywhere in the city is the Santa Ana Mountains.
