About Carlsbad
La Costa is a southeastern area of Carlsbad, a north county area of San Diego. Carlsbad is the 5th richest city in the state of California. It is a popular tourist destination with beaches, golf courses, Legoland, museums, gardens, and lagoons. For city planning and growth management purposes, Carlsbad is divided into four different quadrants: La Costa, Downtown, Calavera Hills, and Aviara.
Carlsbad is known as “Titanium Valley” because of its golf manufacturing industry. Callaway, Taylor-Made, Titleist, Odyssey, and Cobra Golf are all located in Carlsbad. It is also home to information technology, video game development, manufacturing, robotics, medical devices, and wireless technology. Google named Carlsbad the digital capital of California in 2013 with the strongest online business community.
The La Costa quadrant has Rancho Carillo, a premier master-planned development built near Leo Carillo Ranch Historic Park. Leo Carillo was a Hollywood Actor and preservationist in the 1950s and 60s. The park is a registered Califonia Historical Site. The ranch was orginally 4,500 acres of land in Carlsbad but is now a landscaped 27-acre canyon with the main house, cabana, and other historic buildings. The park is open to the public.
La Costa is also home to the Gold Medal Golf Resort, Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. The golf course is a 35 hole Champions and Legends Course. The spa is award-winning with eight pools.
The city pledged to protect 40 percent of its’ land as permanent open space. It is one of California’s first towns to draft ordinances protecting sensitive wildlife habitat.
