San Diego Children’s Primary Care Medical Group

What’s the difference between a medical clinic, doctor’s office, and hospital, and how do you know which one you need? A medical clinic is a facility that mostly provides outpatient care, appointments, and same-day services. Some medical clinics also have an urgent care facility for non-life-threatening medical emergencies. Doctors that work in a medial group may have their doctor’s office located at a medical clinic. Some doctors may have an individual, private office, while others may share an office with other practitioners. A hospital usually is used for specialized treatments, surgeries, medical emergencies, or other patient concerns that require overnight care, or multiple days of therapy. The majority of your health care appointments should take place at a medical clinic or a doctor’s office. If you require services from a hospital, your doctor and medical team can usually provide a recommendation.

Services Available at a Medical Clinic

A medical clinic is a facility that mostly provides outpatient care, like checkups, vaccinations, preventative health screenings, lab tests, physicals, consultations, x-rays, and other sameday services. Medical clinics may also offer wellness initiatives like nutrition classes, help to stop smoking, weight management programs, and support groups. The Children’s Primary Care Medical Group (CPCMG) medical clinics host a variety of team members, including nurses, administrators, technicians, doctors, caregivers, and patient services coordinators.
